Dwight "Bill" Black coached at Big Walnut before leaving to build a golf course, Mill Creek, in Ostrander, Ohio.  His daughter, Janice who was born in Sunbury, became the mother of Ben Curtis.

On July 22, 2003, the Ostrander native won golf’s oldest tournament championship with a 283.  Ben Curtis beats 500-to-1 odds to win British Open, his first.  Curtis is believed to be the first player since Francis Ouimet at the 1913 U.S. Open to win a major championship in his first try.
