Youths Prank Derails Train in 1952

Vandals pulled the switch to route the train onto the siding which went to the Nestlès Plant but the train was coming too fast to make the sharp turn and jumped the track just west of the Columbus Street overpass.  Although there was a great deal of damage to the train, no one was hurt.  Had the train been able to make the turn, there would have been damage to the plant and probably to people on the train.

Columbus Street looking toward town is on the right had side of this photo.  The south end of Nestlès is in the background.  Lumber the train was carrying is being piled near the road.
