Special Trips Open to Members
The Trips Committee under the leadership of Janet MacKenzie plans day trips to places and events of historical interest.  Participants pay their own admission fees and any other expenses. Carpooling is available.

  With Pen in Hand,
The Dan Emmett Story
The Mount Vernon Players are presenting With Pen in Hand, the Dan Emmett story, an original play written and produced by Mike Petee and directed by Mark S. Jordan.Big walnut Area Historical Society will sponsor a field trip to Mount Vernon’s Woodtown Theater for the 7 p.m. performance on Thursday, June 5. Adult tickets are $10.

Pen in Hand portrays the story of Dan Decatur Emmett’s life as a musician, songwriter and playwright. Set in 1896, Emmett and his wife, Mary Louise, are being interviewed by a young reporter. The story unfolds with songs, a reproduction of a minstrel show and “Dixie’s Land.” This is not to be missed!

Mark your calendar so you don’t miss the visit to The Works, Ohio Center for History, art and technology. The museum occupies the Scheidler Machine Works which was built in 1861 to manufacture steam engines and line shaft sawmills. Glass Works with glass blowing demonstration, Art Works Gallery and Studio featuring contemporary art and classrooms, Digital Works, a design studio and training center for the web, graphic and exhibit design, computer modeling and large format printing, the Licking County Arts Gift Shop and lunch in the adjacent restaurant, the Le Fevre Courtyard completes our day.

An added feature will be Dwight Lennox to entertain in the courtyard during our lunch.

There is a $4 admission for seniors.  Times and carpooling info will be released later. Mark the date on your calendar.
